BACK MOUNT MESH PAPER

Stone and ceramic tile manufacturers as well as companies creating mosaics, borders, medallions, accents, corners, and listellos use our back mount papers to preassemble tiles into patterns.

Sheets:

We manufacture and stock 11-1/8” x 11-1/2” and can make 11-1/8” x 1” up to 99” long. Paper is .0115” thick, extra strength, white mounting stock. Surface is ideal for gluing, compatible with all appropriate adhesives. Perforated pattern is 3/8” holes on 1/2” staggered centers.

Rolls

We manufacture and stock rolls 11–1/2” wide x 1,800' long. Paper is .009” thick natural kraft. This is a bi-directionally strong paper with good wet strength properties and excellent gluing surface. Holes are 3/8” square, staggered.

Users of Mosaic Tile Supplies:

Small shop mosaic artisans, large ceramic tile manufacturers, and everyone between use Mesh Mount Paper to make mosaics, borders, medallions, accents, listellos, corners, and more. Application is manual, semi–automated, or fully automated; our rolls are designed for use in meshing machines, but are ideally suited for manual assembly as well.

Tile Adhesives:

For gluing the tiles to the paper, most manufacturers use white PVA glues such as Elmer’s® or thinned wood glue. For best adhesion, apply the adhesive to the paper only. Where water resistance is a major consideration, water resistant adhesives can be used, or try our front mount Tile Tape.

Mortar Adhesion:

Mesh mount paper has a 55% open area, so more than half of the rear surface of your tile makes contact with the mortar/thinset. Hundreds of stone and tile companies have had great success for over 30 years using mesh mount paper.

Using our Mesh Mount Paper

Whether you use our sheets or rolls, lay the paper down on a surface covered with release paper, like waxed paper, so your table isn't later covered with drying glue. Then lay out our paper in a manageable size and pin or clamp it. Next, apply glue (white pva, Elmer's®, carpenter's glue, or Tite Bond®) with a brush, sponge, roller, or sprayer ( you may need to dilute the glue a bit to work in a sprayer but don't overdo it-10%-15% water should be enough). Do this in small sections so untiled areas do not dry before you get to apply tiles. Be certain to apply the glue to the paper, not directly on the tiles. It may be messy at first but it gets better each time you do it.

Drying usually takes about 24 hours but that can vary considerably depending upon ambient conditions. Heating will accelerate drying so tiles can go into boxes in as little as 10 minutes.

If you have ideas to improve or simplify the procedures please let us know. Good Luck.
